Privacy policy

Last updated: October 31, 2026

Higher Self is run by [LLC name] ("we", "us"). This policy covers the app at app.higherself.quest and this website. It says what we store, why, who helps us run the service, how long we keep it, and how you can get it or delete it. Questions: support@higherself.quest.

The short version

  • We store what you put into Higher Self so the app works — nothing more.
  • No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and we never sell or share your data for marketing.
  • You can download your household's data and delete your account from Settings at any time.

What we store, and why

  • Your account: name, email address, a securely hashed password (never the password itself), and when you accepted these terms — to sign you in and send you the emails you need or ask for.
  • Your household's data: tasks, chores, goals, recipes and their photos, meal plans, pantry, shopping lists, the timeline of what was done, and settings such as your energy budget, time zone and reminder times. This is the service itself; it's shared with the people in your household.
  • Invitations: the email address you invite, so we can send the invitation.
  • Phone notifications, if you turn them on: the address your browser gives us for sending notifications to that device.
  • Payments, for paid households: Paddle's customer and subscription IDs, the plan, its dates, and who pays. We never see or store card details.
  • Recipe imports: when you import a recipe, our server fetches the web page you give it.
  • Server logs: IP addresses and requests, kept briefly to protect sign-in and sign-up from abuse and to fix problems.

We use this information to provide Higher Self to you (our agreement with you), to keep it secure (our legitimate interest), and where the law requires it.

No ads, no tracking, no analytics

Higher Self shows no ads and uses no analytics or tracking cookies, in the app or on this website. The app keeps you signed in and keeps a copy of your lists and today's plan on your device so it works offline; that stays in your browser. When you sign up, Cloudflare's bot check runs on the sign-up page, and when you subscribe, Paddle's checkout opens; each may use what it needs to work.

Who processes it

We use a few companies to run Higher Self. Each gets only what it needs for its job:

  • Hostinger — the server Higher Self runs on (Boston, United States).
  • Backblaze — encrypted storage for our daily backups (United States).
  • Resend — sends our emails: confirmations, password resets, invitations and reminders (United States).
  • Paddle — takes payments as merchant of record and handles tax, receipts and refunds.
  • Cloudflare — Turnstile, the check that a sign-up isn't a bot.
  • Your browser's push service (for example Apple, Google or Mozilla) — delivers phone notifications, if you turn them on.

We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and household data: until you delete them, or your account.
  • Free households show the last 30 days of their timeline; older entries are kept (not deleted) and come back with the paid plan.
  • A read-only household that isn't kept or re-subscribed is deleted after 30 days.
  • Backups are taken daily and the last 14 are kept, so anything deleted is gone from backups within 14 days.
  • Payment records are kept by Paddle as the law requires.

Getting your data, and deleting it

  • Download: anyone in a household can download all of its data as a file from Settings, once a month (any time while a household is read-only).
  • Correct: a household's owner changes its name and time zone in Settings; to change your own name or email address, email us.
  • Delete: delete your account from Settings. Households you're alone in are deleted with it; households shared with others pass to another member.
  • Wherever you live, you can also ask us to access, correct, delete or stop using your data by emailing support@higherself.quest. We'll answer within 30 days.

Google data

Connecting a household's Google Calendar is coming soon. When you connect it, Higher Self will use the access you grant only to put your household's tasks, chores and meals on that calendar and keep them up to date. We'll store the access token, encrypted, to do that, and nothing else from your Google account beyond your email address to show which account is connected. Disconnecting removes our access and the stored token.

Higher Self's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Security

Everything travels over HTTPS, passwords are hashed, sign-in and sign-up are rate-limited, each household can only see its own data, and backups are encrypted.

Children

Higher Self isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll email account holders first. The date at the top shows the latest version.
